Pothibasa (2200 mtr )is the name of place after the birds- This word is derived from Sanskirit which means the home of Birds and numerous birds because it has all good things which is required for the livelihood of Birds and other wild life . Pothibasa is surrounded by thick green forest and lots of plant species are there in the forest which fulfills the need of the wildlife. Mountain stream with all-time clean water are the spots where the birds play , sing and fly from one place to another. The village Pothibasa is also perfect for the research and development of medicinal plants – “Amesh and Kutki” are some of medicinal plants being cultivated here and there is farm land in surroundings which is maintained by HAPRAC an institution in the field of High Altitude Plants Research.
Birds of Pothibasa : Monal (State bird of Uttarakhand), Snow Partridge, Himalyan Partridge, Kaliz Pheasant, Koklas Pheasants, Yellow Rumped Honeyguide Forktail, Scarlet finch, Brown owlet, Golden Bush Robbin, and many more.
Wild Annimals : Black Bear, Leopard, Wild Pig, Indian Jackal, Yellow Throated Martin, CVet Cat, Red Fox, Flying squirrel, Barking Deer, Porcupine and many more.
Pothibasa is a Hindi name which is combination of two words Pothi and Basa Pothi meant for Pakshi (Birds) and Basa means Basera (Home) ie.. Home of Birds. Pothibasa is home of Many Migratory Birds .
